Our Mission
I have been around the block a few times in dealing with young people. I taught at two Bible Colleges and have been a Youth Minister in Louisiana, Mississippi, and now Tennessee. I have seen dynamic youth groups that thrived. I have also seen several youth ministries with no burden, plan, or ideas. I wholeheartedly believe that teenagers are one of the most important demographics for the church. One that shouldn’t be tossed aside, taken for granted, or treated lightly.
One of the scariest statistics for any youth minister is the percentage of young people that leave the church once they graduate High School. The time when most young people are lost is their first year of college. I believe this happens for a variety of reasons, however the major ones are these:
- The teenager was unprepared for the “freedom” they experience away from their parents. Many don’t know what it’s like to have the responsibility over their own safety and well-being. Paying bills is a small responsibility in comparison to the responsibility of ones’ own welfare.
- The teenager never cultivated their own walk with God while they were growing up in the church. They either chose not to or were never challenged or trained on how to build a relationship with God.
- The teenager was never prepared for the anti-christian professors and educators they may face in a university. Many of these professors make it a hobby to engage in debate with young, unprepared Christians so they can make them an “example” to the class, many times shattering the Christian’s faith.
- Evolution and so-called “science” being taught in direct opposition to the Bible, and claimed to be scientifically proven, rather than just believed.
These four issues could mean disaster for a young, unprepared Christian. Not only is there a culture shock in being on their own, but there is the attacks that come on their faith from all sides. That is why we have come up with the following mission for Revolution Student Ministry.
Our Mission
- To introduce teenagers to the closest friend they will ever have, the best teacher they will ever listen to, the most generous provider they will ever need, the most caring, loving, self-sacrificing, merciful, graceful, and giving person they will ever meet. The real Revolutionary, Jesus Christ.
- To equip teenagers with the tools and knowledge necessary to be able to stand against the onslaught of the world on the Christian faith. The Bible says that God’s people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. We strive to instill Biblical knowledge into the students.
- To give scientific and practical information that prepares the student for attacks against their faith. To be able to step away from the debates on Christianity’s validity and see things the way they really are. To be able to remain firm and convinced that the Christian walk is the better choice for all alternatives offered by the world.
- To help, show, convince, persuade, teach, train, and compel teenagers to be saved.
